Privacy policy

Married by Parker is a wedding officiant service. When you ask a question, book a ceremony or send a message through this website, you share some personal information. This page explains what that is, why it's needed, and how long it's kept. The short version: it's used only to answer you and marry you, and it's never sold.

Who I am

Married by Parker is operated by Parker W Courneene, an ordained minister in Clarkston, Michigan, United States. "I" and "me" on this page mean Parker. You can reach me at marriedbyparker@gmail.com about anything here, including a request to see or delete your information.

What I collect

• When you send the form: your names, email, phone number (if you give it), the date, time and place you have in mind, and anything else you write.
• When you chat with my assistant: the messages you type, and any name, email or phone number you share so I can reach you.
• When you use Voice: the text of what you say, so my assistant can understand and answer. Your browser turns your speech into text (Chrome uses Google's speech service; Safari uses Apple's). I receive only the text, never a recording of your voice.
• When you book: the ceremony date, time and place, and the contact details you give.
• Basic technical details: your IP address and browser type, used only to keep the site and assistant working and to stop abuse.

At the ceremony I look at your marriage license and photo IDs to confirm who you are and complete the license. I don't copy or keep your IDs. Your signed license goes to the county clerk, as Michigan law requires.

Please don't send payment card numbers, Social Security numbers or ID numbers through the chat or form. If you do, I'll delete them when I see them.

My assistant

The assistant on this site is automated. She answers only from answers I've written and approved, and she says so. Chats and voice conversations are logged as text so I can follow up with you and improve her answers.

When she books a time for you, she checks my calendar for open times and holds the one you pick. Nothing is booked until I confirm it with you personally.

How I use your information

• To answer your questions and get back to you.
• To schedule, confirm and perform your ceremony, and file your license.
• To improve my assistant's answers.
• To keep the site running and secure.

I don't sell your information, share it for advertising, or add you to a mailing list.

Who else handles it

A few services help run this site. Each gets only what it needs, and none may use your information for its own purposes.

• Lighthouse inbox, my own company, runs the assistant on servers hosted by DigitalOcean in the United States.
• Google holds my calendar and email (marriedbyparker@gmail.com). Booked ceremonies go on my calendar, and booking emails are sent from that address.
• Formspree delivers messages sent through the form on this page to my email.
• Your browser's speech service (Google or Apple), only when you use Voice.
• The county clerk receives your signed marriage license, as the law requires.

I'll also share information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.

How long I keep it

• Chat and voice transcripts: 90 days, then deleted automatically.
• Booking requests: kept while your ceremony is upcoming, and as a record afterwards.
• Ceremony records (your names, date and place): kept as a record of the marriages I perform.
• Emails and form messages: kept in my email, and deleted when you ask.

How I protect it

Information is encrypted on its way to and from this site, and access to my accounts and servers is protected with two-step sign-in. Records are deleted on the schedule above rather than kept forever. No system is perfectly secure; if something ever went wrong with your information, I'd tell you promptly.

Your choices

You can ask me what information I have about you, correct it, get a copy, or have it deleted. Email marriedbyparker@gmail.com and I'll answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under your state's privacy law; I honor those requests either way.

Children

This site isn't meant for children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent me information, let me know and I'll delete it.

Changes

If I change this policy, I'll update the date at the top of this page.
